Why we exist

Buying off-site biodiversity units should be a straightforward transaction. In practice it often is not. Requirements are technical, the legal mechanism is unfamiliar, pricing is opaque, and responsibility tends to be spread across a landowner, a broker, an ecologist and a solicitor who have never met.

We built the company around a small core team, with the ecological, legal and land specialists we need on hand. When you ask what a unit costs, why a multiplier has been applied, when the contract will be ready or what condition the habitat is in, the answer comes from someone who knows.

How we work

We create habitat banks and work with established habitat banks. We then take on everything else between the developer and the units. Day-to-day management of a bank sits with its operator and the landowner, with progress evaluated by the local authority under a section 106 agreement or by a responsible body under a conservation covenant.

What we control completely is the sale: the assessment, the negotiation, the coordination between every party, and the paperwork.

Where we work

Nationally, across the whole of England. Biodiversity net gain is an England-wide requirement and we are set up to serve it that way, rather than operating from one region and hoping the spatial multipliers work out for you.

The statutory metric penalises units bought a long way from the development they compensate for, so a supplier who only holds land in one part of the country is expensive for everyone else. Working nationally means we can look for a fit near your site.

The network is growing steadily, and what is available shifts as new banks come on. So the only reliable answer to "have you got anything near me" is to ask us — tell us where your site is and what you need, and we will tell you how we can help, including whether creating something purpose-built would suit you better.

Where the right land is not already in the network, we can bring a bank forward for a specific scheme, which for larger requirements is often the better answer.

The name

Swifts are incredible birds. They fly 6000 miles each year migrating between Europe & Africa. They are also in steep decline in the UK. Biodiversity Net Gain gives them a chance to find new homes in protected areas and to have a wealth of food to eat.

The swift represents our goals: to be fast and responsive as a business, and to be serious about nature recovery. We combine both with commercial understanding to deliver meaningful projects for communities and competitive pricing for clients.
